SportsFi: Revolutionising the Business of Football
Overview
The business of football - from player contracts, to transfer, to media rights, to sponsorship -is a multibillion-dollar industry with a quirky and somewhat-antiquated set of methodologies underpinning it. One of the biggest examples is the existing process for player transfers between clubs - deals are executed in fragmented, informal, and, by current standards across other industries, outdated fashion. Football is increasingly a financial or asset management business as much as it is a sporting consideration - so why shouldn’t it benefit from the same high-quality data and tech that asset managers do?
The founders of All Sports Finance, one the most globally renowned football finance entities, identified an opportunity for a tech solution to streamline, standardise, and simplify the entiretransfer journey, from sourcing deals to managing finances and contracts. Their vision was to create a one-stop portal for the digital management of football financials, assets, contractsand associated information & data, to help project revenue and asset values - but they needed help building the software and data platform, called SportsFi, to enable this.
Daedalus stepped in to redefine the technical approach, delivering a solution that will transform the way football transactions are administered, financed & organised worldwide, for parties across the value chain.
What Daedalus did
Daedalus first stepped in whereby SportsFi had a tech provider with other priorities. The existing codebase was not built to the enterprise level for commercial use, so Daedalus redefined the product, focusing on delivering a minimum viable product (MVP) that would work for SportsFi's scalable needs.
The MVP provided a streamlined workflow that enabled Clubs to handle contracts, propose and execute deals, and share legal documentation between relevant stakeholders securely.
Daedalus also became an embedded partner, assisting not only with development but also with the commercial roadmap and investor engagements.
01
The first step was to evaluate the existing technology, most importantly, Daedalus ensured that strategy and operational thinking were not tethered to tech-implementation considerations. In effect, by reasoning from first principles focussed on All Sports Finance’s Strategy and commercial goals, Daedalus redefined the product structure to function more effectively.
02
Within just three months, we delivered an MVP that demonstrated product viability, allowing SportsFi users to manage contracts and execute deals in a secure, integrated way.
03
Beyond development, Daedalus provided commercial and strategic guidance—helping SportsFi further define their market in terms of feature releases for each market segment, which in turn helped refine their business model, and create a three-year product rollout roadmap.
04
Daedalus attended some investor meetings as a vital extension of the SportsFi team, where technical due diligence and product demonstrations were required. We also offered ongoing services, effectively functioning as a division within SportsFi for product development and tech support.
