Our Approach

We’ve been startup founders and have experience in technology, data and product within corporates, so we know how to support you in what you actually need.

01

Solutions not Problems

We're focused on finding solutions that work. We’re honest and not afraid to challenge assumptions or explore unconventional approaches, even if those aren’t what clients thought they needed when they first came to us.

02

Developing a Partnership

We're transparent, and direct. We embed ourselves into your team to collaborate on our shared goals. We seek to align incentives and long-term value creation so that we can focus on the outcomes that matter together.

03

Focus on Strengths

You are the expert in your field. We are world-class experts in technology. We won’t use jargon or sprint task boards in an attempt to sound clever. Instead, we own the tech so that you can focus on commercial growth and what you do best.

04

Empathy and Direct Experience

We’ve created our own ventures, raised money for them and made sales. We’ve also experienced failure. We know first-hand the feeling of having to choose between paying your mortgage or paying your people, and we’re also here to help you through those challenges.

FAQs

What makes Daedalus unique?

The Daedalus team has worked together since 2017 - we have launched our own ventures and individually we have led technology, data and product divisions within corporates and scale ups.

This means we’ve both seen a range of problems and built solutions for them and worked together as ready-to-go team. Two things you instantly benefit from.

Finally, we already have an in-house set of components and libraries that we can deploy on a project - not only does it mean we deliver faster, but you automatically fully own this code when you work with us.

This allows us to deliver REAL CODE solutions at the pace of LOW/NO CODE but with embedded scale. Often we can deploy in a third of the time compared to the standard models.

Which types of startups does Daedalus work with?

Our skills align well with startups who:

1. Seek to tackle a complex, industry-wide, problem.
2. Are in the FinTech, B2B or enterprise tech sectors.
3. See the value of data and AI both in revenue generation and internal efficiencies.

However, we have worked with startups that fall out of these three categories in specific projects, too - see how we support on specific projects below.

How much will my venture cost to build? What are your fees?

It would be unfair of us to answer this without understanding more of your plan.

We have a number of engagement models and a range of approaches to suit any budget. Our focus is on working with you to understand the most commercially viable route to success.

Above all we promise you honesty, if we can get you started on an Excel or Google Sheets database and automation, then we’ll suggest that and nothing more.

Does Daedalus invest? What’s your experience of fundraising?

As of Q4 2024, we are in discussions to open a fund and we hope to have it ready by 2026.

Our founders sometimes invest on a personal basis via SEIS and EIS protections. Daedalus can consider investment instruments such as a warrant or equity.

In terms of raising capital:

  • The Daedalus team has raised money from Family Offices - we did so for our previous FinTech venture.
  • Our CEO has deep experience of Seed to Series B fundraising with institutional investors including Venture Capital, Private Equity and Angels.

We are well connected to funders and are always happy make introductions for relevant clients.

Does Daedalus take equity instead of fees?

Yes.

We are also aware that some institutional investors don’t want to invest in companies that have a venture studio taking a large stake of the business. To that end, we seek to align engagement to deliver maximum positive impact with the least negative risk.

We consider taking equity a long-term proposition akin to getting married, and we’d be in it for the long-haul. We therefore suggest “dating” first via a fixed term, fixed price engagement first to ensure we know and like each other.

Who owns the tech if I work with Daedalus?

You.

Our engagement contracts capture the full transfer of IP and the tech services used to you and your business.

What are Daedalus’ competencies?

Backend Software Engineering

If I start with Daedalus, do I have to work with Daedalus forever?

No.

We are fully aware that things change and that you may want to use other tech providers, or bring things in-house.

We are inherently “designed to be deleted”: with an appropriate handover, you can easily move on.

How? We write things down and produce relevant tech documentation alongside building, something we know a lot of the standard models forget.

Does Daedalus help me hire my own tech team?

Yes.

If, after working with us for a period of time, you wish to hire your own in-house tech team, we are happy to help with the recruitment process.

Can I use Daedalus for a specific project and not full startup venture creation?

Yes.

We are happy to support on projects aligned to our competencies and expertise. Please Contact Us.

Do you have a full, in-house team?

Yes.

Our founders are based in Central London and the rest of the team is a commutable distance away or in mainland Europe.

When working with us, you will have direct contact with Tesh, our London-based CEO who acts as your embedded CPO and Project Manager. He acts as the single point of information disbursement so that your venture or project can move at pace.

Can I use near or off-shore developers with or instead of Daedalus?

Yes.

We are fully aware that some ventures need to manage costs and both near and off-shore solutions can be effective.

We are happy to make recommendations, or work with your preferred provider(s), but we can’t 100% guarantee code quality or product success of products we don’t fully own.

In our experience, whilst costs can be reduced by two thirds by using such providers, the delivery time can also increase by two-thirds.

If these parameters are acceptable for you, then combining Daedalus for strategy and oversight and another provider for execution can be highly effective.
