Becoming a Scalable SaaS Business
Overview
Vivv, a marketing agency specialising in optimising social advertising campaigns using an analytical, data-led approach, faced a challenge: how to transition from a service business to a product-driven one that could scale to serve hundreds of clients efficiently.
Vivv was manually managing analytics for ad campaigns across multiple social platforms, extracting data and running analyses for their clients using spreadsheets. This approach worked when servicing a limited number of clients, but it wasn't sustainable for scaling to hundreds. Their goal was to automate much of what they do, a goal complicated by the challenges posed by multi-platform data extraction.
The challenge wasn't unique to Vivv—many marketing agencies struggle to automate and scale their processes—but Vivv had aspirations of becoming a global player. They needed the right partner to guide them through the tech solutions that would match their business goals.
They needed to navigate data protection legislation to allow them to extract and store client account information in compliant fashion whilst at the same time ensuring it was current enough to ensure it was driving best-in-class analysis and recommendations - and all the while make this timely and cost-effective whilst scaling rapidly.
Daedalus stepped in to deliver a working Proof of Concept,Prototype and high-level tech strategy that transformed their processes through automation and enabling them to scale without breaking the bank.
What Daedalus did
Daedalus advised Vivv to rethink their approach. Their goal wasn’t to become a giant of global marketing - so we advised them to stop trying to build the sort of tech solution that a giant of global marketing might deploy.
Instead, we advised them to think like a SaaS startup - to build quickly, to develop an MVP at pace. This is the SaaS mantra, pre-Series-C at least, and we told them to stick to it.
Instead of building complex enterprise technology from the outset, Daedalus recommended focusing on rapid testing and prototyping and ensuring that costs wouldn't scale in tandem with growth. The team helped Vivv build a proof-of-concept solution to replace their manual processes and designed a prototype that could be used for both sales and investor pitches
